How Does TRE® Work?

TRE® is a natural process which is a purely ‘somatic’ or body-based, so it does not involve talking about or reliving past traumas or current stresses.

TRE® in action

Through a series of 7 simple stretching exercises, your body will start to feel a little shaky perhaps in the legs. From there you simply lie on the floor and allow the vibrations to intuitively move through the body.

‘Tremoring’ lasts for about 25 minutes, and then you enjoy a period of relaxation to let the body integrate the process. The overall experience takes about an hour. Afterwards most people report feeling calm, unburdened and relaxed.

The effects of TRE® can be immediately felt during and after the tremoring experience, and this is then integrated into the body over the coming days. When we practise TRE® regularly we find that our new normal response to life is a lot calmer and less reactive.

For sufferers of PTSD, CPTSD, extreme stress, personal tragedy or trauma, TRE® helps by re-integrating the traumatized mind with the body. It allows painful emotions to be safely expressed without any need to talk about or relive the stressful or tragic experience.

Once the organism is working as a whole again, the person can begin to move through the trauma and back to health.

For sports professionals, this reintegration between mind and body allows for greater performance and faster recovery times. Since TRE® works with our nervous systems, we can also practise moving beyond maximum strength to accessing absolute strength, giving  a strength and endurance advantage. How many TRE® sessions do i need?

Every individual’s trauma or stress history is different, but to get a good understanding of what your body needs, it is recommended to experience 3 - 6 sessions over a period of 4 - 6 weeks, to allow the body to gently release tensions, stresses and traumas that might have built up over time.

If you want to work through a specific trauma or for those suffering from PTSD or CPTSD, it is strongly advised that you start with a private session with a Certified TRE® Provider.

Can i do TRE® on my own?

It is important that you become familiar with your body’s stress response first of all with the aid of a Certified TRE® Provider who can help you self-regulate and guide you through the process safely.

However the process was designed as an autonomous, self-help tool, so provided you have learnt from a Certified TRE® Provider, after 3 or 4 sessions you will also be able to safely practice this on your own at home. It is still helpful to join a group or even have a private session a couple of times a year just to assist in your personal growth and enable you to go deeper into your personal practice.
